A Glimpse into the Workshop

Opened since 2019, at the historical centre of Cremona

  • VIOLINTECTURE: The ARCHITECTURE of VIOLIN
  • VIOLINMAKER: The ARCHITECT of BOWED INSTRUMENT, thus of MUSIC

‘Greek in origin, the term tectonic derives from the word tekton, signifying carpenter or builder. […] In Greek it appears in Homer, where it alludes to the art of construction in general. The poetic connotation of the term first appears in Sappho, where the tekton, the carpenter, assumes the role of the poet.’

(Kenneth Frampton, Studies in Tectonic Culture)

It begins with the combination of two passions: the love for music and the wish to construct with my hands.

My instruments are created with a similar attitude to that of an architect, with an awareness of the connection between human hands and the Cosmos, with both vigorous and delicate balances between scientific studies and artistic understanding.

Yet in violin making, there stands another opportunity: the visualisation of sound, to get close to the essence of music. I am aware of the responsibility in my work: it ought to be the bridge to music and humanity. These are different approaches than those of a musician but it leads to a similar destination.
